How to Deploy a DesktopServer Created Website to GoDaddy’s Managed WordPress Product

Earlier this year, GoDaddy started offering Managed WordPress Hosting. As with most other Managed Hosting services, there are some additional steps that need to be taken in order to do a successful deploy. This video shows you the steps necessary to successfully deploy your site.

Alternately, you can follow these step-by-step instructions:

  1. Create a basic WordPress installation on GoDaddy’s server
  2. Associate your domain with your WordPress site (if applicable)
  3. Get coffee
  4. Go to the Settings for your GoDaddy WordPress installation
  5. Select the SFTP tab
  6. Open your FTP program and enter the SFTP connection details
  7. Connect to your host
  8. Navigate to your HTML directory on GoDaddy within your FTP program
  9. Right-click on your wp-config.php file and select either edit or view
  10. Open DesktopServer
  11. From Main Menu, select, “Export, import or share a website,” and click Next
  12. Select the name of the local site you wish to deploy from the drop-down menu.
  13. Enter the name of the domain to which you’ll be deploying. This MUST match your domain name exactly. Click Next
  14. Copy DB_NAME, DB_USER, DB_PASSWORD and DB_HOST information from your open wp-config.php file into the DesktopServer corresponding fields. DOCUMENT_ROOT can be left blank in most cases
  15. Enter your desired file name and save location (be sure to note your save location)
  16. Wait for DesktopServer to create your archive and then click Next
  17. Return to your FTP program and reconnect to GoDaddy
  18. Upload your archive to the root directory of your site (same directory as your wp-config.php file)
  19. Navigate to your DesktopServer directory (Mac: Applications\XAMPP Windows: c:\xampplite)
  20. Upload quick-deploy.php to GoDaddy
  21. Open your browser and navigate to your domain.com/quick-deploy.php
  22. Enter your archive name into the Deploy Field and click “Deploy”
  23. Click OK at the warning
  24. Your site will now start the deployment process
  25. Once complete, your page will reload with your new website. In some cases, you may have to clear out your browser cache.
  26. Log into the WordPress dashboard using your login credentials created on your local site and resave your permalinks
